Police Say They Have Found 19 Children Who Were Sexually Abused by David Christie
The police in their report to the Federal High Court on Monday September 3, 2001 said they have so far found 19 children
who were sexually abused by David Christie. Mr. Christie is behind bars on allegations that he sexually abused children while
running a Swiss-based orphanage charity in 1996. The police said they still are investigating the case and asked the Court for
an additional 14 days as they may find additional victims.
David Christie's defense lawyer rejected the police report saying that the investigation should have been concluded because the
police started the investigation even before the arrest of the suspect. The lawyer asked for the release of his client on bail and
told the Court that his client is suffering from acute asthma and other problems.
The Court, however, did not accept the defense lawyer’s plea to release the suspect on bail as the police have not yet filed
charges, and postponed the appeal until the police conclude their investigation. The Court ordered the police to finish their
investigation in the next 7 days and also to allow the suspect to get medical treatment. The next hearing of the case is to be held
on September 10, 2001.
