Debre-Markos, July 02, 2002 (WIC)- The Amhara Development Association (ADA) has
provided 45,000 birr to support girl students in two high schools in Debre-Markos town.
Head of the East Godjam Zone Branch Office with the Association, Semwork Mengiste, Told
WIC yesterday that the fund provided by the Association would help offer supplementary
education to a total of 2,228 girl students in Debre-Markos and Menkorer High Schools.
The fund will be used to prepare handouts for the girl students, purchase educational
materials and also pay fees for their English, Mathematics, Amharic, Physics, Chemistry,
History and Biology part time teachers he said.
He also said that the supplementary education programme would help the girl students to
prepare themselves for higher learning.
The programme, believed to also enlighten students on issues of gender and reproductive
health, would also be launched in other schools of the zone, according to Semwork.
