Over 33,000 Drop-Out from Schools in the Capital Last Year
Addis Ababa, Sept. 12 (WIC) - The Education Bureau of the Addis Ababa City Administration disclosed today that 33,367 students have dropped-out from elementary and secondary schools within the last academic year.
Ato Eskinder Kebede, the Bureau’ Public Relations head, said that 17,578 students from elementary and 15,789 from secondary school levels dropped out from school and indicated that there is a 6,338 rise in the number of dropouts in comparison to last year.
Ato Eskinder also explain that over 50 per cent of the dropouts were girls and pointed out that social and economic factors are the root cause for such a high level of dropouts. The official further revealed that the Bureau is planning to organize workshops involving parents to address this serious problem.
