About 44,000 Students Dropout of School in Arsi
Assella, August 21, 2001 (WIC)- About 44,000 Primary School students dropped out of school in Arsi Zone of the Oromia State during the just ended academic year, the zonal education department said.
Planning and Program Main Section Head with the Department, Ato Teshome Megra, told WIC that the dropouts were among about 385,000 students enrolled in 483 primary schools in the zone during the reported period.
He said some 15,538 of the students who dropped out owing to health economic and social problems such as early marriage were females.
Meanwhile, he said some 6,873 students who dropped out for short period reserved their classes through students self help associations and counciling services at the schools.
