Relief Assistance Goes North

Save the Children Norway-Ethiopia Program (SCNE) has been distributing 1550 tonnes of grain and 150 tonnes of

supplementary food worth 4.8 million birr to 17,468 people affected by the current drought in North Gondar, Aderkay and

Beyeda woredas. The distribution started on April 10 at one of the distribution sites called Fiyelwuha.


The activity is in accordance with the first relief operation agreement which SCNE signed with the Disaster Prevention and

Preparedness Commission (DPPC) of the Amhara Regional Sate on March 23. The agreement is to supply grain and

supplementary food to people found in the two woredas in two phases of which the first is described above.


Efforts are under way to start the second relief operation soon. SCME has already secured additional 10.5 million birr support

from he Norwegian Foreign Ministry to reach the remaining people in the two woredas waiting desperately for relief assistance.
