Awassa, March 30, 2002 (WIC) - A Visiting Congressional team said the United States

will pursue more vigorously, its support to Ethiopia's efforts to bolster the education

       sector.

Mr. John Isakson, leader of the six-member team currently visiting Ethiopia, said at the

end of a two-day tour of the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples State (SNNPS)

that the U.S will continue to extend all-round support to Ethiopia's strenuous effort at

upgrading the quality and coverage of education in the country.

He said, his team was, in the course of its visit, able to realize that the country was

laying the ground for addressing the problem of trained manpower in various sectors,

through the introduction of a professionally designed education policy. He described as

ncouraging the educational process the team was able to witness in the elementary and

secondary schools as well as technical education institutes it had visited in the Regional

       State.

According to the Congressional Team Leader, the U.S has in the past four years been

sponsoring a multi-million dollar Educational System Rehabilitation Project in Tigrai and

       the SNNPS.
