Bureau to Offer Distance Education to 5,000 Teachers
AWASSA, July 25 (ENA) – The Southern Nations, Nationalities and People's State Education Bureau said it had finalized preparations to offer distance education to about 5,000 teachers in the state.
The distance education was aimed at mitigating the shortage of teachers and upgrading the competence of those teachers teaching at various schools across the state.
Teachers and educational professionals training team leader with the bureau, Shanka Biramo, told ENA yesterday that the recruitment of the teachers to be embraced in the programme has almost been finalized. Some 270 trainers of this programme were undergoing capacity building training, he added. Shanka said the bureau in cooperation with the Ministry of Education would carry out the program.
Meanwhile, Shanka said 2,310 teachers from the state were currently following in-service training at various higher learning institutions.
Currently, there are over 24,000 teachers throughout the state.
