Agency to launch diploma level distance education
ADDIS ABABA, Sep 17 (ENA)– The Educational Media Agency (EMA) said it has finalized preparations to launch a diploma programme through distance education to the over 24,000 teachers across the country as of October this year.
Agency General Manger Demisew Bekele told ENA yesterday that the distance education would meet the standard of diploma courses offered by teacher training colleges.
He said the programme was designed with a view to promoting the capacity of the second cycle teachers, thereby improving the quality of education.
Alongside making use of radio broadcast access, 116 tutorial centers have been set up to facilitate the educational programme, the manager said.
He said, educationalists drawn from higher institutions had received training on the preparation of distance education. The training was given in collaboration with the Indra Ghandi University of India.
The agency shared the experiences of India. Kenya and Zimbabwe prior to launching the programme, he added.
