Ethics Education To Be Given In Schools


     Bako, June 26, 2002 (WIC)- Preparations have reportedly been finalized to introduce ethical

   education in formal education curriculum in Ethiopia.


   Ethical Education Project Manager with the Civil Service Reform Sub-Program, Teshale

   Gebremariam told WIC today that the preparation of text books in ethical education for

   students in the primary schools and higher education level would be finalized within the

   coming week.


   He said consultation fora would be organized later this year for professionals on the

   curriculum and content of the books.


   The content at primary schools will focus among others on traditional values and fighting

   harmful traditional practices, he added.


   According to Teshale the ethical education at secondary schools will give more attention to

   the concept of ethics, decision making and promoting traditional values of the country.


   He added that the overall objective of the education is to nurture work ethics in the country

   and fighting corruption.


   In a related development Teshale said preparations were also finalized to offer on job ethics

   education to civil service employees.
