544 Million Birr Allocated for Expansion of Higher Education
Addis Ababa, April 10 (ENA)-- More than 544 million birr has been spent on the implementation of the five-year expansion and upgrading program of higher educational institutions existing in the country over the last five years, the Ministry of Education said.
Higher education academy and research department head with the ministry, Dr. Teshome Yizengaw told ENA on Saturday that colleges in Jimma, Awassa, Bahir Dar and Mekelle had been raised to university levels.
Part of the fund had been spent on capacity building schemes, he said.
High school teachers training courses are being given in Dila and Alemaya, southern Ethiopia Peoples State, Dr. Teshome said.
Postgraduate programs have been launched in almost 50 fields in Addis Ababa University and 11 streams in Alemaya University during the stated period, he said.
