British ambassador inaugurates media education programme

GONDAR (ENA) – The Media Education Programme for Women, a project founded by the British Embassy Small Grants Scheme (SGS) was inaugurated here yesterday.
British Ambassador to Ethiopia inaugurated the programme, which is being implemented by the Gondar Educational Mass Media Center.
SGS allocated 58, 890 birr for the production and transmission of the programme targeted at benefiting approximately one million people.
According to a British Embassy press release, the programme will help create access to information and establish discussion fora on health, cultural, social and economic issues affecting women living in the local area.
The programme will use a range of methods including drama, stories, poems, discussions, features, interviews and feedback to tackle critical issues such as HIV/AIDS, harmful traditional practices, reproductive health, family planning, girl's education and women's political and economic participation....'
SGS annually awards grants to small-scale grassroot development projects aimed at improving the livelihood of poor people in Ethiopia, the release indicated.
