ID Cards for Foreign Nationals of Ethiopian Origin under
distribution
Addis Ababa, June 25, 2002 (WIC)- The Security and
Immigration Authority disclosed that the distribution of Identification cards
to Foreign Nationals of Ethiopian Origin has begun in accordance with the
proclamation providing them with certain Rights to be exercised in their country
of origin.
Immigration and Nationality Affairs Main Department Head
with the Authority, Girma Balcha told WIC that the ID cards have been issued to
Foreign Nationals of Ethiopian origin since the 10th of this month.
He said the ID cards have already been dispatched to
Ethiopian Embassies around the world to distribute to the nationals interested
to enjoy the rights provided to them by proclamation.
Girma recalled that Foreign Nationals of Ethiopian origin
who possess the identification cards shall not be required entry visa and
resident permit to live in Ethiopia, among others.
He however added that though foreign nationals of Ethiopian origin have the right to be considered as domestic investors to invest in Ethiopia, they have no right to vote or be elected to any office at any level of government and to be employed on regular basis in the National Defense, Security, Foreign Affairs and other similar political establishments.
