42,000 Adults Attend Literacy Programme In Jimma
Jimma, September 18 (WIC)—The Jimma Zonal Education Department said about 42,000 adults were awarded certificates recently on completion of a two-months basic education programme.
According to Ato Dawit Tadesse of the Department's Educational Programme Section, 24,921 adult men and 17,116 adult women have acquired skills in basic numeracy and literacy in the Oromo language, in addition to attending courses in fundamental environmental sciences.
The programme was conducted by some 2,300 regular teachers and volunteers at 654 centres, Dawit said.
Last year, more than 84,000 adults attended and successfully completed a similar programme, he noted.
