Meles Leaves for UN Summit New York


ADDIS ABABA, September 5 (ENA) - Prime Minister Meles Zenawi left here for New York yesterday to attend the United Nations' Millennium Summit due to open tomorrow in New York.


The summit is expected to bring together some 150 heads of state and government from around the world and will address a host of issues under the official theme, "The United Nations in the 21st Century."


In addition to making an address to the summit, the Prime Minister will participate in one of four interactive round tables, a spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told ENA.  He is expected to stay in Washington D.C. for a few days after the summit to meet with US officials and some of the leaders attending the summit, the spokesman said.


Prime Minister Meles will also meet officials of Harvard University where he will deliver a lecture.


He will also visit various institutions, discuss with scholars specializing in Ethiopian studies, and meet with the Ethiopian community in Washington.
