Ministry Says Ready To Provide Information About Private Colleges
Addis Ababa, August 07, 2002 (WIC)- The Ministry of Education said it was ready to offer
relevant information about private colleges to the public.
Head of Public Relations Office with the Ministry Berahnu Alebachew told Walta today that
should any one desire to have information about whether a given private college was
accredited or not the Ministry was ready to provide the necessary information.
According to Berahanu, there are currently only 13 private colleges accredited to run diploma
programmes in various fields.
These colleges have met the standards and criteria set by the Ministry to win official
recognition as their educational objectives and curricula were in tune with the general
educational objectives of the country, he added.
Berhanu urged the general public not to hesitate to seek information regarding the status and
programmes of the accredited colleges in the face of the proliferation of private educational
institutions in the country.
Meanwhile sources close to the ministry told Walta that the Ministry is developing new rules
and regulations to control the activities of private colleges that have not secured the
necessary credentials from the ministry and facilitate the work of the private accredited
