WIC, January 28, South University to be Inaugurated
AWASSA, Jan. 27 (ENA) – Preparations are well under way to inaugurate the South University (SU) in the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples State (SNNPS), the coordinating committee announced.
Dean of the Awassa Agriculture College and Secretary of the Committee, Dr. Zenabu Gebre-Mariam, said activities to organize the required manpower and other sectors of the SU through the integration of the Wondo Genet Forestry, Dilla Teachers Education and Health Sciences, as well as the Awassa Agriculture Colleges is in progress.
SU is one of the four universities recently approved by the Council of Ministers to be established in various parts of the country, he said.
Manpower deployment and budget allocation of the SU had been under preparation since the past month, Dr. Zenabu said.
He said committees set up at various levels are now engaged in instituting the senate of the SU.
According to Dr. Zenabu, the Awassa Agricultre and Wondo Genet Forestry Colleges have jointly undertaken various construction, research, development and training programmes at a cost of more than 95 million Birr with the aim to reinforce the capacity of SU.
