IOM and TALENT SEARCH Team Up to Bring Ethiopian Professionals Home

Addis Ababa, August 1999 (WIC) - The International Organization for Migration (IOM) and TALENT SEARCH today signed a letter of Intent at Taitu Hotel in order to create a partnership to bring Ethiopian Professionals living abroad back to their home country.

The letter of intent was signed by Dr. William Thuring, Country Director of IOM and Ato Yusuf Reja, General Manager of TALENT SEARCH.

The two parties have agreed upon a framework for cooperation regarding the return migration of qualified expatriate Ethiopians in the aim of addressing shortages of qualified human resources in Ethiopia.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Willem said that IOM, a partner of the United Nations , is an inter-governmental organization that works towards ensuring, throughout the world, the orderly migration of persons - refugees, displaced people and other migrants - in need of international migration services.

In Ethiopia, IOM is placing highly qualified Ethiopian Nationals in key positions of the priority sectors of the country.  Currently, IOM has an active candidate roster of 150, and has returned 65 highly qualified Ethiopian Nationals to the public and private sectors, said the country director.

Ato Yusuf on his part said that TALENT SEARCH is an Ethiopian employment and human resources firm established to serve both job seekers and employers. He added that it facilitates and eases the hiring process for employers through its permanent placement, temporary contracts and executive search services.

The General Manager also said that the cooperation between IOM and TALENT SEARCH is purely for the mutual benefit of the beneficiaries they serve and it bears no financial commitment whatsoever.

It was learnt on the occasion that a job fair organized by TALENT SEARCH will be held on 16 and 17 October 1999 in Addis Ababa at Menelik II high school.
