Adama, May 09, 2002 (WIC)- A training that would help contain the various child diseases
caused by malnourishment was reportedly launched yesterday in Adama Town, Oromia State.
Abate Djijo, Office Coordinator of the State's Food Security Programme, told health workers
participating in the training, that 62 per cent of the children under five in the state
experience loss of weight, and mental retardation, among others, due to malnutrition.
He said that with the view to alleviating the food shortage in needy families, the health
experts had previously undergone trainings to help undertake integrated activities towards
ensuring food security in those families.
About fourty health workers drawn from Arsi, Bale, Borena, East Hararghe, West Hararghe,
East Shewa and North Shewa Zones were attending the five-day training, it was learnt.
