War Displaced Students Suffer Shortage of Stationery
Adi-Grat, September 8 (WIC)- The Tigrai Eastern zone Education Department disclosed that it has yet not received the necessary stationery for use by the over 10,000 students displaced by the war.
Educational Supervision Head with the Department, Ato Fesseha Woubneh told WIC yesterday that there is need for over 85,000 exercise books and over 134,000 pieces of pencils and ball-pens for 10,066 students displaced from Irob and Gulo-mekeda districts and attending classes in caves and makeshift shelters.
He said there was in stock only 20 ball-pens and pencils as well as 7,000 exercise books saved from the previous academic year.
A representative of the zonal Disaster Prevention ad Preparedness Department said in this connection that 83,260 exercise-books secured from the Nazareth Children's Home will soon be distributed among the displaced students, so as to help them start classes on time. He however warned that the available stationery was not enough for the whole year and appealed for the necessary support from pertinent government and non-governmental bodies.
