200 Women Candidates of Five

Addis Ababa, Feb. 6 (WIC) – Over 200 women candidates
fielded by the Oromo Peoples Democratic
Organization (OPDO), the Amhara Peoples Democratic Movement
(ANDM), the Tigray Peoples Liberation Front
(TPLF), the Benishangul-Gumuz Democratic Unity Party and the
Afar National Democratic Party (ANDP) have
started campaigning in their respective constituencies. According
to information made available to WIC, the
contestants running for seats of both councils have begun
introducing their political programmes. Out of
the 83 women candidates fielded by the OPDO, 13 are running
for seats of the Council of Peoples
Representatives and 70 for the state council seats. OPDO had
fielded only 3 women candidates for the
Council of Peoples Representatives and only 12 for state
councils in the past election.
Similarly, the ANDM is now fielding 15 and 42 women candidates
for the seats of the Council of Peoples
Representatives and State Councils, respectively.
Besides, the TPLF is fielding 46 women candidates for both council’s
seats, while the Benishangul-Gumuz
Peoples Democratic Unity party fielded 11 for the state council.
In a related news, the Afar Peoples
Democratic Party has fielded 3 women candidates for the state council, it was learnt.
