The British Council, in co-operation with the Women's
Affairs Office at the Prime Ministers Office, organized last week a
seminar on enhancing women's political participation,
drawing on recent experience in the Scottish Parliament, which had
transformed ways in which women's issues were brought
forward into the political arena.
"The seminar held at the Ghion Hotel was of interest to
all those who have responsibility in encouraging more women in to
decision-making and political life," a spokesman of the
British Council said.
The aims of the seminar are to contribute towards Ethiopia's
strategy to enhance women's participation in the country's May
elections and to explore relevant ways to promote gender
issues during elections.
The seminar was directed by Kate Philips and Gill Long,
directors of the Active Learning Center in Glasgow. The Active
Learning Center works for the rights of women and children through education and training.
